June 3-7, 2017
Traditional Thai Yoga Bodywork has been practiced for thousands of years in Thailand. Purusha Yoga School Trainings are taught in the tradition of the highly acclaimed lineage of the Sunshine Network from Chiang Mai, Thailand. Your teacher; Joy Ravelli received her certification from a leading teacher of this lineage; Fabian Scapan as well as the lineage of Kam Thye Chow.
In this course you will learn the ancient meaning of Thai Body work which is understood to be a physical application of Metta, the Pali (and Thai) word used in Theravada Buddhism to denote 'loving kindness' - You will learn that the art is given in a meditative mood, which begins with centering and surrendering into a spiritual and healing environment.
The session is given with full awareness, mindfulness and concentration. There is a world of a difference between a massage performed in a meditative mood and a massage just done as a job. Only a practitioner working in a meditative mood can develop an intuition for the energy flow in the body and for the Prana lines.
Contrary to Western style massage, traditional Thai Yoga does not primarily work with the physical body but rather with the energy body. The kneading of muscles, which dominates in Western style massage, is absent from Thai massage: energy points are pressed or general pressure is used instead. There is a lot of stretching involved and many exercises might well be described as 'applied Hatha Yoga' or 'applied physical Yoga'. Rather than using the term 'Thai massage', it wouldn't be a bad idea to actually call it 'Yoga massage' since that's what this art essentially is.
In this course you will learn:
- A full 2.5 hour Session of Holistic Thai Yoga Body Work
- Pressure Techniques that are specific to Thai Yoga Body Work
- How to channel energy and allow it to flow through you
- The art of transferring energy as a means of healing another
- Assists that may be utilized in yoga teaching
- The 5 Element approach of touch developed by Purusha Yoga
- The Essential Marma lines of energy (relates to nadis and meridians)
- The history of Thai Yoga Body Work as a spiritual and healing practice.
- Business and marketing skills
