Kid's Summer Camp proudly sponsored by the Purusha Seva Project


Explore, create, cultivate! An exciting summer camp offered in weekly increments from June 18 - August 3, 2012 for Children 4 - 10 years of age.

KidsYogaCamp O.N.E. connects children with nature every day through yoga, art, games, field trips, and the practice of sustainable living. This summer camp is a co-operative effort between the Studio, Purusha Yoga School and Purusha Seva Project.

Weekly themes include:
Gardening, Native Plant and Animal Identification, Golden Gate Park Foraging, Cooking, Local History, Storytelling, and more!

Who We Are:

We are teachers who believe that learning is a process, not a product. By sharing our experiences and skills, we strive to cultivate children's curiosity so they may grow confidently in our one world.

Our Mission:
To connect children to our shared experiences with nature through hands-on exploration of the outdoors, yoga, art, and the practice of sustainable living.

The Location:
Within walking distance to Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach, Purusha Studio is the perfect homebase for a summer full of exploration. The studio also features a back yard, kitchen, and plenty of space for children to grow, cook, and play.

Summer 2012 Schedule and Curriculum

Daily Schedule:
Monday - Friday from 9:00am - 3:00pm
(Extended day services available.)

9:00 - 9:15: Welcome Circle & Morning Snack
9:15 - 10:00: O.N.E. Time (yoga, focusing activity, overview of the days activities)
10:00 - 12:00: Field Trips, Presentations & Guests
12:00 - 12:45: Lunch
12:45 - 1:00: Check-In
1:00 - 2:30: Activity & Exploration
2:30 - 3:00: Afternoon Snack & Closing Time

 

Curriculum:
(No Camp from July 2 - 15)

Week 1: June 18 - 22
Grow Your Grocery Store
You can be a farmer too! Discover how with a little space, recycled materials, and time, you can grow fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs for your family. 

We will explore: harvesting, composting, neighborhood backyards, exploring dirt and worms, seed identification and planting, creating plant containers and step stones, backyard feast


Week 2: June 25 - 29
What's That?
Have you ever looked at a plant or animal and wondered- what is that? We'll explore the wildlife in our neighborhood and investigate how various species came to be here.

We will explore: identifying neighborhood plants, birds, insects, and animals, native/non-native species, pollinators- journey of the bee, nature sketch book, beach clean-up, potluck picnic


Week 4: July 16 - 20
O.N.E. with Food
Just because food is "fast" it doesn't have to be "junk." Learn about "new" fast food (whole foods) and discover how who we are is from what we eat.

We will explore: the story of our food (from sources, ingredients, packaging), old vs. new fast food, rolling in dough (play dough and salt dough creations), taste and smell experiments: fresh and local vs. processed and shipped, field trip to Other Avenues, new fast food feast



Week 5: July 23 - 27
Living History
Did you know that the Richmind District of San Francisco was originally referred to as "the Great Sand Wasteland?" Let's explore the impact of our decisions in the transformation of a natural landscape.

We will explore: where was the "Sand Wasteland?", layers of our landscape, Balboa Theatre then and now, exploring the Sutro Park and ruins, local art and artists along Balboa, trip to Camera Obscura, flip books, movie matinee

Week 6: July 30 - August 3
Our O.N.E. Story
Nature has a story and we have a voice. Learn to nurture and share our experiences through the art of storytelling.

We will explore: same story/different language, library trip, finding our own story through nature, expressing our own story through song, dance, art, or spoken word, sharing "Our O.N.E. Story"
