is the founder and director of the Purusha Yoga School, The Purusha Studio and the non profit organization; The Purusha Seva Project. Joy started teaching yoga, fitness and health while studying Health Education at Worcester State College at the age of 18. She started her first business with her sister; Gina Iadarola within the walls of the college at the age of 20. Joy has always had a passion for helping people find their true path in life. She began assisting people in their career path by offering certifications and preparation trainings for perspective personal trainers and fitness instructors. She has been teaching people to become trainers, coaches, teachers, and professional holistic educators for well over 20 years. Her first business Health in Motion was successful in providing both trainings for professionals as well as placement in over 30 corporate and college wellness programs in Massachusetts from 1986-2004. In 2004 Joy created the Purusha School that would focus on Yoga as its primary foundation for all other courses. Joy’s life long passion for Yoga practice and over 20 years of teaching experience shines through in every course and class. Joy’s greatest teachers and sources of inspiration are found in wild nature, her three children and her students. Joy Ravelli is the program director and a mentor for the Purusha Yoga Therapy Certification Program.
PJ first encountered yoga and meditation in graduate school, studying world literature and comparative mythology, and began practicing yoga seriously 8 years ago, exploring a number of different styles including hatha, restorative, yin and kundalini. He is an RYT-500 and graduate of the Purusha Yoga Therapy program, with additional certifications in Thai Yoga Massage and Aqua Kriya Yoga. PJ has continued his studies with noted teachers in sound healing, mantra and therapeutic forms of restorative yoga. PJ teaches Hatha and restorative yoga at Purusha, infusing his asana classes with a wide range of practices including pranayama, guided meditation, yoga nidra, and sound meditation. In addition to offering private sessions, PJ is available for Thai Yoga Massage, Yoga therapy, meditation, sound healing, yoga nidra, and chakra balancing. In his Yoga Therapy practice, PJ specializes in helping clients work through struggles with anxiety, depression and grief. PJ is also passionate about fiber arts, having spent many years exploring the intersection of mythology, art and consciousness under the moniker "Wooliverse" and has taught felting classes at the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design. It has been a natural step for him to incorporate meditative art practices into his work with yoga therapy clients.
A native of California, Eric began studying yoga in 1998. A classically trained ballet dancer since 1982, Eric has been a company member of Boston Ballet, Cleveland/San Jose Ballet and, a Soloist with Miami City Ballet. Eric is a graduate of the Urban Flow 100 Hour YTT, the YogaWorks 200 Hour YTT. And the Purusha Yoga School 500 hour Professional Yoga Therapist Training. Additionally, Eric is owner with his wife Joya of Purusha Yoga Studio & School. A Thai Massage graduate, and a life long student of Anatomy and Kinesiology, Eric has been teaching Anatomy, Kinesiology through the lens of Asana and movement for over 6 years. He has taught the Purusha Yoga School Level I 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training as well as advanced trainings in Asana and teaching methods and leads a number of classes, groups and individuals in Yoga, Yoga Therapy, Fitness, and Dance at the Purusha Yoga Studio and various Dance schools throughout the Bay Area. He brings a practical sense of body-movement coupled with a grounded spirit creating a rich yoga flow and fulfilling experience for the beginning yogi as well as the “fumbling sage.”
Lucia balances strength and softness in her teachings of Hatha Flow and Restorative Yoga, as well as in her Private Yoga Therapy and Thai Massage sessions. She is known for her warm and loving presence, and her ability to hold space for others in their experiences. Lucia's teaching style encourages students to listen to the wisdom of their own bodies and find the practice that feels right for them, providing options for modifications as well as offerings for a more challenging practice. Her goal is to provide students with a safe space to empower their deepest selves and truly enjoy the movement practice.
was born and raised in Myanmar. He moved to Nepal at the age of 20 to practice and study Yoga Philosophy at the Tribhuvan University. He graduated from Tribhuvan in 2009 with a B.A. in English Education. He studied Sanskrit and Yoga Philosophy in India and Nepal, and taught Yoga at an English Medium School in Kathmandu for seven years. He also led Yoga camps for village youth, worked with seniors, and was a mentor and spiritual advisor for patients at a drug rehabilitation clinic. Laxman moved to the United States in 2010, and has been teaching Yoga and Meditation throughout San Francisco. He has taught at after-school programs in elementary schools, senior centers, family centers, and a number of studios. He is a primary teacher at Purusha Yoga Studio where he received his 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2010 and his 300 hour advanced yoga teacher and professional yoga therapy certification in 2012. Laxman loves to bring Yoga and Yoga philosophy to all members of the community in a fun and engaging way. He believes Yoga is not just a physical practice, but an art of living. In his classes, he brings chanting, meditation, and flow to your life. With youth classes, he brings games, songs, and play all through Yoga. Laxman is a primary teacher and mentor in the Purusha Yoga Therapy Certification Program.
