Yogi Diet & Lifestyle
In this course students will deepen their understanding and practical application of nutrition basics from modern science and the creation of a balanced diet utilizing classic Ayurvedic principles such as the gunas and doshas. Gaining in-depth training and practice in the areas of client education, prioritization, personalized program design, coaching strategies, and referral protocols will be achieved through instructional preparation for practicum with supervision in the classroom.
The course includes the study of classic yoga texts such as the Vedas, Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras and Hatha Yoga Pradipika as a reference for yogi diets, cleansing practices and framework for health and disease. A deeper understanding of the qualities and stages of a therapeutic relationship is developed through the study and application of intakes, adaptation and specific protocols for common diseases. The course includes a holistic five kosha approach to yogi lifestyle and diet which ultimately leaves the student with a deep understanding of the quality of what we eat and how we eat it, and how that affects every part of the whole human experience including mind, body, energy and spiritual wellbeing.

Kathy Gehlken is a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Certified Massage Practitioner and Wellness Coach in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her work is geared toward connecting people to their inherent power to heal and be well through Ayurvedic medicine, yoga and nutrition. She also teaches workshops and classes on Ayurveda, modern nutrition, cooking and wellness. Kathy studied Ayurvedic Medicine at Mount Madonna College of Ayurveda and completed the Masters program there. She also is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Wellness Coach, Certified Massage Practitioner and RYT-200.
