Mandala Art & Yoga Workshop

  • Purusha Yoga 3729 Balboa Street San Francisco, CA, 94121 United States (map)

Explore, Discover, and Create your own Personal Mandala with a guided journey of paired Art and Yoga Practices to unlock the barriers of creativity and allow your inner artist to shine.

Mandalas have been used throughout the world and across all cultures as a holistic path of experiencing the subtle meaning of common shapes that connect us to our external and internal nature.

Shapes, symbols, colors and form will be explored historically and integrated personally with physical asanas, breathing exercises, authentic movement, sound, chanting, guided meditation, and shamanic journeys. Seamless integration of these experiences will be transmitted to your personal visual art piece.

As you move through these holistic practices you will be simultaneously creating a beautiful personal mandala of your own.  As you continue to work with your Art the intentions you set into the shapes with start to ingrain themselves into your being.

The story of your personal Mandala is the story of who you are and also the ‘who’ you dream to be. Your personal mandala will be yours to keep.

Fee: $45 in advance, $55 at the door

Mare-Joie Hughes (MJ) is a native San Franciscan who started drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil. Dropping out of art school at 19, she started working as a textile designer for Esprit de Corp in 1984 and over the decades designed for many large corporations like Restoration Hardware and Williams-Sonoma, where she led a large group of designers to create the artwork that covered many various products for the Willians-Sonoma and Pottery Barn brands. Always intrigued by the stories textiles tell, MJ discovered that all textile designs worldwide started as magical amulets that protect the owner. In some cultures the designs that are woven or drawn on the textiles are believed to heal the wearer. This study of magic and symbolism in design is a passion she infused into the corporate design world with the designers she managed. She is now spreading the message to young budding designers here in the US and in India.
