TAKE YOUR TEACHING TO THE NEXT LEVEL BY LEARNING THE THREE A'S OF ASANA: ANATOMY, ALIGNMENT AND ASSISTS.
It is not uncommon for students to find yoga while exploring alternative methods of fitness, or nursing an injury. While most yoga teachers are not equipped to treat injuries, understanding the anatomy of asana supports teachers in guiding responsibly and minimizing the risk of new or further concerns.
Through a blend of lecture and experiential learning, gain a greater understanding of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology as you strengthen your foundation and confidence in the areas your students need and appreciate most. Western science compliments eastern knowledge of the energy systems, allowing for effortless alignment, injury-free movement, intelligent program design, and the therapeutic elements of touch, assists, and cueing.
In this course you will learn:
Anatomy/physiology and their applications to specific asanas
Develop anatomical precision in your practice, sequencing and verbal cues
Kinesiology/biomechanics and their application to specific asanas
Alignment principles of the energy body, and 'chains' of synergistic muscles working together to maintain proper posture
The chakras and vayus as a means of creating healthy pathways for alignment and energy flow
Bandhas and Pilates methods for stabilizing and strengthening your body from the core center for specific asanas
Somatic (mind/body) techniques to coordinate and strengthen the neuromuscular pathways
Yogic philosophy and its applications through biomechanics and holistic system integration
5 Element assists for specific asanas
Modifications and progressions for specific diseases and common concerns for specific asanas, such as: arthritis, osteoporosis, spinal imbalances, and joint issues of the shoulder, knee, sacroiliac, hip, wrist, ankle and neck

My journey with yoga began when I was in my teens. My first class was at a Bikram yoga studio. Initially, I was attracted to the heat and intensity of the Bikram practice. My practice shifted away from Bikram and into various different styles of yoga. My own personal practice is most strongly influenced by Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga, and that’s reflected in my classes.
